VARIOS MISIONEROS JESUITAS RECIBEN EL I PREMIO DE LA FCEJ
Mr Miguel Sanz, President of the Community of Navarre, presented awards to the winners of the Spanish edition: Mr Federico Lanzado Salafranca, Mr Fernando García Gutiérrez and Mr Fernando Rodríguez Izquierdo.
The event, which was attended by members of the Board of Trustees and a large number of representatives of institutions and businesses, was opened by the Foundation's President, Mr Josep Piqué.
The Foundation's Board wished to award winners for their pioneering work in Japanese Studies in Spain, since they represent a group of Jesuit missionaries who lived in Japan during the 1950s and 60s, learning perfect Japanese and immersing themselves in Japanese culture with true scientific interest. Since they returned to Spain, the group has carried out important research, academic, and cultural promotion work in their different speciality areas: their translations from Classical Japanese, essays and studies on Japanese history, thought, art, and literature constitute a legacy of immeasurable value for future generations.
